Cosmetic Improvement?
The latest survey of US Consumers by Bespoke Investment revealed something both depressing and very interesting.
The survey, in its fourth year, regularly asks whether people have had various elective surgeries recently. These are the kinds of surgeries that are not covered by insurance, so Americans need to pay for them out of their own pockets.
A rise in the proportion having cosmetic surgery therefore indicates a rise in financial confidence (albeit presumably coupled with a loss of Americans’ confidence in their looks). And in the past few months, with a notable jump after the tax cut was agreed, far more Americans have been splurging on cosmetic surgery.
